Her doctoral research was an ethnographic study of Filipino migrant care and medical workers in Singapore. Subsequently, she undertook postdoctoral research on urban migrant communities and social inclusion in comparative perspective, at the Centre for Metropolitan Studies in São Paulo. From 2014-2017, she was Research Fellow at the United Nations University Institute for Globalization, Culture and Mobility in Barcelona. She is author of the monograph Caring for Strangers: Filipino Medical Workers in Asia (NIAS Press, 2017), and has published her work in academic journals such as The Asia Pacific Journal of Anthropology, Citizenship Studies and Urban Studies, as well as in policy-oriented publications. At MPI-MMG, she will be leading the research group ‘Ageing in a Time of Mobility’, examining the diverse interconnections between ageing, migration and translocal mobility. This interdisciplinary and multi-sited project will focus on cases in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
