Dr. Jifeng Liu

Jifeng Liu was research fellow at MPI-MMG. His research explores how the rise of China is restructuring the Protestant networks between Chinese communities in Southeast Asia and Southern Fujian in the twenty-first century, as part of the Indian and Chinese Religious Networks in South-East Asia project directed by Peter van der Veer and Kenneth Dean.

Jifeng received his PhD in Sociology and Religious Studies from Leiden University in the Netherlands in 2017. During his doctoral project, he has been a visiting scholar in the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Cambridge and the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies at the University of Copenhagen.

As a sociologist, his research interests revolve around Protestantism in contemporary China, state and religion, and transnational religious networks.
