Workshops, conferences 2014

From New Helots to New Diasporas

Thursday 2 October and Friday 3 October 2014
The Oxford Martin School, 34 Broad St, Oxford OX1 3BD

This international conference draws scholars from different parts of the world to consider the contribution of Professor Robin Cohen to migration, transnationalism and diaspora studies and to social science more widely. While it is structured around Professor Cohen’s  work and influence, it has the broader purpose of drawing connections among different but related spheres of social science inquiry over the last half century – notably labour studies, African and Caribbean studies, the investigation of migration, immigration and race, development studies, and the study of transnationalism and globalisation. The outcome is expected to be a synthesis of some of the prominent themes and strands of thought linking these different but related fields.
