Tania Pagotto is a PhD Candidate at the University Ca’ Foscari of Venice. From January 2018, she is a doctoral fellow at the Department of Ethics, Law and Politics of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity.

She graduated in Law from the University of Padua, discussing a thesis titled «The Legal Status of Established Religions. Freedom of Conscience in England and Israel». She spent a period of research at the Centre of Law and Religion in Cardiff (2014/15) and at the Vrije Universiteit in Brussels (2012/13, LLP-Erasmus). In 2017 she visited the department of Ethics, Law and Politics of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity

She is currently working on the topic of freedom of conscience and religion, with a comparative legal approach. At the Institute, she will complete her doctoral dissertation, analyzing the interconnection between religion, conscientious objection and reproductive freedoms.

Her interests include also general issues on comparative public law, human rights and discrimination, with emphasis on religious accommodations and the jurisprudence on Art. 9 of the European Convention on Human Right.
