Dr. Gabriele Alex

Gabriele Alex was a guest in December 2023. She is Professor and Head of the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen. She received her M.Sc. in Medical Anthropology and her Ph.D. in Social Anthropology, both from Brunel University, West London. She taught at the University of Münster (2001-2004) and the University of Heidelberg (2004-2009) and was a Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Religious and Ethnic Diversity from 2009-2010 before taking up the professorship in Tübingen.

Prof. Alex's regional focus is on South India/Tamil Nadu. Her research interests include medical anthropology, anthropology of youth and childhood, and museum anthropology. She is the editor of the Zeitschrift für Ethnologie/Journal of Social and Cultural Anthropology.
