Dr. Beate Engelbrecht
Dr. Beate Engelbrecht (Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Göttingen)
Beate Engelbrecht worked as an assistant in the Anthropological Department at the University of Basel (1977-1979, 1981-1985) and at the Museum für Völkerkunde Basel (1977-78, 1982). She later worked as a lector and deputy director of the publishing company Edition diá (at the time in Wuppertal, Cologne) (1985-1988).
Since 1985 she has been working as an anthropologist, ethnographic filmmaker and producer at IWF (Institut für den Wissenschaftlichen Film). In 1998, after the restructuring of the IWF, she became the director of the section “Culture and Society” and in 2002 director of the business unit “Transfer”.
She has also been the director of the “Göttingen International Ethnographic Film Festival” since 1993. Since 1998 she has undertaken multiple trips to film in Mexico, Burkina Faso, India, and Indonesia.
