Dr. Emilija Simoska works at the Institute for Sociological, Political and Legal Research, at the University Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, Macedonia. Her field of research are the interethnic relations as a part of the political culture of the society. Her PhD acquired in 1991 is in the field of Political Sociology and regards the problem of political socialization.

From 1994 until 1996 she was elected for a Minister of Education in the Macedonian Government. Presently, she is Head of the Center for Ethnic and Security Issues at her Institute and Head of the Department for Communications on the postgraduate and doctoral studies at the university. She is a full professor of Political Culture and Communications.


Project

The research project Cultural and ethnic identities is planed as a comparative analysis of societies with different ethnic groups and substantional number of minority population. The basis of the comparison will be  Macedonia, as a divided society  where ethnic and religious identities dominate and often obstruct the process of nation-building. Various research data on this issue from Macedonia will be used in order to compare this process with other similar cases. Particular attention shall be paid to the problem of existence of different and common values of various ethnic groups.
