Summary
European mountain areas are often associated with outmigration and aging populations. Yet, many have seen a growing influx of international migrants, from those searching a different lifestyle to resettled asylum seekers. How do mountain areas deal with increasing social and cultural diversity? Is there anything unique about migrants’ experiences in these places? My research explores these questions through focusing on the encounters among “locals” and “newcomers” in Italian Alpine towns.
