Dr. Magdalena Suerbaum

Curriculum Vitae

Magdalena Suerbaum is now at the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies (IZG) at Bielefeld University. Magdalena was a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Department for Socio-Cultural Diversity. Her research focused on the social implications of legal statuses and determination processes among recent asylum-seekers in Germany. Her research project was part of the Max Planck Research Initiative “The Challenges of Migration, Integration, and Exclusion”. She is the author of “Masculinities and Displacement in the Middle East: Syrian Refugees in Egypt” (I.B. Tauris, in press). Magdalena holds a Ph.D. in Gender Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. She completed an M.A. at the University of Exeter in Middle East and Islamic Studies, and a B.A. at Philipps University Marburg in Islamic Studies.
