Vita

Hania Sobhy ist seit 2017 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am MPI-MMG. In ihrer Forschung beschäftigt sie sich mit Bildung, Staatsbürgerschaft und Anfechtung. Ihr aktuelles Projekt ist eine vergleichende Studie zu Vielfalt, Protest und Migration im jüngsten Bildungswandel in Ägypten, Libanon und Tunesien nach dem Aufstand. Ihr erstes Buch Schooling the Nation (Cambridge University Press - Open Access) seziert den "permissiv-repressiven Neoliberalismus", der die differenzierten Praktiken der alltäglichen Regierungsführung und Legitimation prägt, wie sie sich im ägyptischen Bildungssystem manifestieren. Ihr jüngster Artikel in der Zeitschrift World Development entwickelt einen Rahmen für die Untersuchung des ‘The Lived Social Contract’ (Der gelebte Gesellschaftsvertrag) anhand der vier Parameter (4Ps) Schutz, Versorgung, Partizipation und Produktion von Hegemonie. Sie schloss ihr Studium der Politik- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften in der McGill University und SOAS ab, war zuvor am IREMAM (Marie Currie COFUND), an der Freien Universität Berlin (EUME-Programm) und am Orient-Institut Beirut tätig und ist für ihre derzeitige Feldarbeit mit dem IRMC in Tunis, dem OIB in Beirut und dem CEDEJ in Kairo verbunden.
