Jayeel Serrano Cornelio was Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity.  He was also teaching a class on youth and religion at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Göttingen.  Since June 2014, Jayeel is director of the Development Studies Program at the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines. 

He received the MSocSci in Applied Sociology (2007) and the PhD in Sociology (2011) from the National University of Singapore.  He was a recipient of the Asia Research Institute PhD Grant, the Graduate Scholarship for ASEAN Nationals, and the Lee Foundation Prize for graduating at the top of his cohort.  He has held visiting posts at the Department of Religious Studies (Lancaster University), the Institute of Philippine Culture, and the Asia Research Institute.

Jayeel’s publications are in the areas of youth, religion, education, and urban studies.  He is currently working on his first monograph on the Filipino Catholic youth, a co-edited volume on religion in global society (with Linda Woodhead, Francois Gauthier, and Tuomas Martikainen), and special journal issues on religious philanthropy in Asia (with Khun Eng Kuah-Pearce) and on the study of Filipino Catholicism.
