Tilmann Heil was a doctoral research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity and D.Phil. candidate at the University of Oxford’s Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology and African Studies Center. Additionally, he is affiliated with the Oxford Diasporas Programme at the International Migration Institute (IMI) and the Centre for Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS). His research in Catalonia (Spain) and the Casamance (Senegal) focuses on discourses, practices, and transnational experiences of diversity, difference, conviviality, and migration. After previous fieldwork in 2007, he did his doctoral fieldwork in 2009/10 in Catalonia and Spain.

After studying geography, history and political science at the Humboldt-University of Berlin, he completed an M.Phil. in Migration Studies at the Centre on Migration, Policy, and Society (COMPAS) at Oxford, concentrating on interdisciplinary approaches to migration.

Migration, conviviality, everyday life and (super-)diversity, transnationalism, cosmopolitanism, migration and development, western Mediterranean region, Southern Europe, West Africa
