Prof. Lily Kong (National University of Singapore)

Curriculum Vitae

Lily Kong is Vice President (University and Global Relations) at the National University of Singapore. She is also Director of the Asia Research Institute (ARI), established as a university-level institute in July 2001. Prof Kong's main research foci are religion, cultural policy and creative economy, and national identity. She has also written about globalization and migration, and the social construction of nature and the environment. She has 13 books and monographs to her name, as well as about 70 papers in international refereed journals, and 30 chapters in books.

Prof Kong is an editor of the international journal Social and Cultural Geography. She is also Commissioning Editor, Children's Geographies, as well as a series editor of Pacific Rim Geographies: Studies on Contemporary Culture, Environment, Cities, and Development (Routledge). Additionally, she is Book Series Advisor for The Politics of Popular Culture in Asia Pacific (University of Illinois Press and Hong Kong University Press). She is also a member of 15 editorial boards and international editorial advisory boards. These include the journals Asia-Pacific Viewpoint, Australian Geographer, GeoJournal, Material Religion, Progress in Human Geography, and others.

Between 1997 and 2003, Prof Kong received five fellowship awards including the Commonwealth Fellowship Award and the Fulbright Fellowship Award. She has an Honorary Doctor of Science from UK's Loughborough University and is a recipient of the 2006 National Day Award, the Public Administration Medal (Silver).

Prof Kong is a member of Singapore's Conservation Advisory Panel, Preservation of Monuments Board, Board of Trustees of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies; Board Member of National Environment Agency; Member of Political Films Consultative Committee & Public Service Commission and Chair of Singapore's Stamp Advisory Committee.
