Jie Kang is research fellow and project coordinator at the Max-Planck Institute for Religious and Ethnic Diversity. She completed her PhD at the University of Leipzig and MMG in 2014. She is the author of “House Church Christianity in China – From Rural Preachers to Urban Pastors” published in 2016 by Palgrave. Currently her main research interests include religious networks and governance, especially concerning Chinese Christian house churches, church-state relations, transnational religious growth in China and the Chinese diaspora. Her specific responsibilities at MPI include the following:

  • Supporting collaboration with Chinese universities, academic institutions and organizations.
  • Organizing the department’s activities, such as seminars and workshops.
  • Ensuring that there is continuing MPI online access to the articles published in the bilingual journal Cultural Diversity in China.
  • Assisting with the publication of the institute book series “Global Diversity”
  • Developing a research network base connecting the MPI Department of Religious Diversity to Chinese academic institutions.
  • Coordinating exchanges between the MPI and its publishers, including at present De Gruyter and Palgrave.
