Über die Abteilung

Worldwide, societies are becoming more complex through migration-driven processes of diversification. The Department of Socio-Cultural Diversity, directed by Steven Vertovec, is devoted to comparative investigation and theoretical development concerning ‘diversity’ as the social organization of difference. The intersecting categories of ‘difference’ most relevant to the Department’s research agenda are race and ethnicity, religion, gender, age, class and migration status. Research projects in the Department explore the ways in which migration-driven diversification is related to increasing inequality, urban governance and broader patterns of social transformation.
