Dr. Larissa Vetters

Curriculum Vitae

From 1997 to 2003 Larissa Vetters studied Cultural Anthropology and Eastern European History in Tuebingen/Germany and Athens/Greece. Her master’s thesis was a historical-anthropological study of the phenomenon of social banditry and state efforts to create a monopoly of violence in early post-independence Greece (1830-50). This interest in state formation led her to continue her studies with post-graduate training in public administration at the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer/Germany. After obtaining a master of public administration in April 2005, she began work on an interdisciplinary Ph.D. project on external state-building in post-conflict Bosnia and Herzegovina, focusing on administrative reforms in the divided town of Mostar. Larissa Vetters was employed as a research coordinator for a third-party funded research project (‘Local State and Social Security in rural Hungary, Romania and Serbia’) at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle/Germany.

Her research interests include Political anthropology (anthropology of bureaucracy and the state), urban anthropology, comparative public administration, social security, post-socialism.
