Call for Contributions New Diversities

About the journal: New Diversities is a peer-reviewed and open-access interdisciplinary journal seeking to promote debate and conceptual development around issues of diversity and social difference. We publish content primarily in the format of Special Issues curated by external guest editors. However, we also welcome individual article submissions as well as reviews of books, films, conferences and exhibitions. We are especially committed to foregrounding work by researchers based outside of Western Europe and North America.

What we are looking for: We are looking for submissions that link substantive analyses with critical perspectives on the modes, politics, representations, experiences, dynamics and consequences of various forms of social differentiation –including ability, age, class, ethnicity, gender, language, race, religion and sexuality– and their power-laden intersections.

We are open to a wide range of theoretical, methodological and regional orientations, and particularly encourage comparative, decolonial and/or intersectional approaches. We also welcome submissions that experiment with different formats and media, including narrative and dialogical writing and/or audio-visual materials (e.g. illustrations, photographs, maps, videos and comics).

How and what to submit: Interested editors and authors should submit the following via email at

For Special Issues:

  • a proposal outlining the content and rationale for the special issue (2 pages maximum)
  • list of individual articles to be featured in the SI, with author names and contact details, titles and abstracts of 150-200 words

For individual articles:

  • title and abstract of 150-200 words (abstracts for multi-modal pieces can include audio-visual materials)
  • author name(s) and contact details

Review & publication process: All article submissions considered for publication are sent to at least two external referees for double-blind peer review. Accepted manuscripts are professionally copy-edited and published in our Early View section ahead of issue publication. There are no publication or access fees and all content is published in line with Libre Open Access.
