Organisations shape migration trajectories and processes of inclusion/exclusion of migrants and their descendants in multiple ways. These include, for instance, public administrations implementing state policies and deciding upon the access to legal status and public services, international organisations and border agencies monitoring, controlling or trying to prevent cross-border mobility as well as schools, universities or companies shaping educational and professional careers and international mobility. While organisations are thus one of the key forces in producing migration and immigrant incorporation, an organisational approach has for a long time received relatively little attention in migration research.

The workshop will discuss contributions for a special issue that aims at exploring the potential of an organisational perspective in and for migration studies. The special issue brings together contributions focusing on the role of organisations in both migration and incorporation processes as well as in sending, receiving and border contexts. In doing so, we seek to shed light on overarching organisational practices, structures and rationalities at play.
