Matt Sheedy (University of Bonn) was a guest from September until October 2023. Matt teaches in the Department of Religion at the University of Manitoba and in the North American Studies Program at the University of Bonn. His research interests include critical social theory, theories of secularism and religion, along with contemporary narratives on Islam, atheism, Christianity, and Indigenous religious traditions in North American popular and political culture. His most recent book is Owning the Secular: Religious Symbols, Culture Wars, Western Fragility (2021). He is currently working on a book entitled, Islam According to Google News: How Media Shapes the Way We Talk About Religion.
