Dr. Anna Fin

Curriculum Vitae

Anna Fin was a scholar in residence at the institute from February until June 2024. Anna received a Ph.D. in the field of Sociology. She is Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology of Culture, Pedagogical University in Krakow (Poland), and currently Visiting Scholar at the Graduate Center City University of New York (Fulbright Senior Award 2022-23). She received her degrees from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. She specializes in the sociology of migration, urban sociology, and the research of the sector of culture and arts. Her research interests focus on the contemporary transatlantic migration (with special emphasis on immigration in the USA), processes of creating and transforming immigrants neighborhoods and communities as well as on relations between immigrants-based groups, within which she developed the concept of "displaced borderland”. She is also involved in the organization of photographic exhibitions devoted to the issues of migration and ethnicity. She has been awarded grants from The Fulbright Foundation, The Lanckoronski Foundation (London), The Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg Scholarship Found, The Shevchenko Scientific Society in America, The Kosciuszko Foundation (USA). Her current research focuses on the development of migration photography and its importance (role) in the study of migration processes and phenomena.
