James Hampshire is a guest in 2025. James is a Professor of Politics at the University of Sussex, UK, and Deputy Editor of the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies. His main research interests are the politics of migration and immigration policymaking. He is the author of two monographs, Citizenship and Belonging (2005) and The Politics of Immigration (2013), as well as numerous journal articles and book chapters. His research has been published in journals including the European Journal of Political Research, Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, and West European Politics. Beyond academia he has advised the UK Parliament and EU institutions. He is currently working on the political economy of migration, specifically three connected research strands: the role of business and organised labour in immigration policymaking; the history of capitalist development, capitalist diversity, and international migration; and the relationship between migration and inequality.
