Dr. Madeline J. Bass, 2023-2025
Curriculum Vitae
Madeline J. Bass was a post-doctoral research fellow in Dr.
Johanna Lukate’s Minerva Fast Track
Research Group on Migration, Identity, and Blackness in Europe. She has
been at the MPI for Human Development since June 2025. Madeline holds a
PhD. from the
MOVES European Joint Doctorate (a Horizon 2020/ Marie Skłodowska-Curie
Program), awarded by the Freie Unviersität Berlin and the University of
Kent.
She earned her M.S. in Sociology with Portland State University and the
Peace
Corps Master’s International program, living and working for 3 years in
Western
Oromia. Madeline’s
research sits at the intersection of Black Studies & Critical
Indigenous
Studies, while also engaging with theories & methodologies from
across the
social sciences.
