Yining Chen was a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity. She completed her first master’s degree in comparative literature with the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship at Osaka University. Later, she was granted an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) Scholarship and graduated cum laude from the University of Göttingen and the University of Groningen. Prior to joining Max Planck, she did her post-graduate training in the Netherlands Research School of Gender Studies (NOG) at Utrecht University. Since the beginning of 2015, she started volunteering with the Asiel (asylum) Team at COC Groningen & Drenthe, a local branch of a Dutch rainbow organization, which led to the direction of her doctoral research.
