Curriculum Vitae

Nga Mai joined the MPI-MMG in 2016 to work on her doctoral research under the supervision of Professor Peter van der Veer and Dr. Tam Ngo. Before working at the Max Planck Institute, she graduated from two master programs. Her first M.A. was an interdisciplinary program in public health in Thailand, where she researched Vietnamese diaspora in Thailand and their marriage migration. She received the second M.A. in Migration and Intercultural Relations – an Erasmus Mundus joint masters program - with her dissertation on the history of Vietnamese immigration into the Czech Republic and the transformation of the diaspora into one of the ethnic minorities in the country. At the Max Planck Institute, she was interested in Vietnamese immigration in Germany, and how the perception of intimacy and self is mediated by the legalization process.
