Curriculum Vitae
Noman Baig is now Assistant Professor at the Habib University.
Noman Baig was a PhD student of anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin). His PhD research investigated how post-9/11 financial surveillance has influenced mercantile practices in contemporary Pakistan. The ethnographic research was conducted in Pakistan’s largest wholesale bazaar, Bolton Market, in Karachi, in 2011-2013 and concentrated largely on customary monetary networks. The study examined how the socio-political response to the ‘War on Terror’ involves fundamental questions of financial autonomy and independence as reflected in the monetary struggles of the merchants themselves.
