Felicity Hwee-Hwa Chan is now at the USC University of Southern California.
Felicity Hwee-Hwa Chan was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Socio-cultural Diversity. She received her PhD in policy, planning and development from the Sol Price School of Public Policy, University of Southern California (2013). Her PhD dissertation entitled 'Shades of Conflict and Conviviality: Negotiating intercultural living and integration in Los Angeles’s globalizing multi-ethnic spaces' compares three multi-ethnic and multi-national neighborhoods of different socio-economic living conditions in Los Angeles. It looks at how diversity is lived and negotiated in order to illumine opportunities that urban spaces offer for facilitating everyday intercultural understanding. Felicity holds a Master in urban planning from Harvard University Graduate School of Design (2004) and a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in geography and Southeast Asia Studies from the National University of Singapore (2000). Professionally, she has worked as an urban planner in Singapore and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
The core bearing of her research interest is guided by a desire to discover how urban settings of diversity can be built and designed to purposefully seed, grow and sustain flourishing human relations. To this end, Felicity is interested to pursue a comparative understanding of the multiple intersections between dimensions of ethnicity, globalization, intercultural relations, immigration, integration, social exclusion, urban design and land use planning.
