Dr. Jifeng Liu, 2016-2017

Curriculum Vitae

Jifeng Liu is an Assistant Professor of Southeast Asian Studies at Xiamen University, China and was previously a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity,from November 2016 to November 2017, where he still is a Research Partner. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology and Religious Studies from Leiden University, the Netherlands. His research revolves around the interplay of ethnicity, religion and politics, in particular religion in Chinese societies, Chinese in Southeast Asia, immigrant religion, as well as ethnicity and religion in Southeast Asia. Jifeng has carried out field research in Southeast China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. He is currently focusing on his book manuscript, entitled “Retrieving the Past Glory: Social Memory, Transnational Networks, and Christianity in Contemporary China”.
