David Parkin is Professor Emeritus of Social Anthropology at the University of Oxford, England, having spent many years previously at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, where he is now an Honorary Professor. He specialises in medical anthropology, cross-cultural semantics, and socio-cultural evolution. His field area is eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean littoral. In 2011 he was Visiting Professor and part of the research team at MPI MMG investigating medical diversity.
