Anne R. van Ewijk (Ministry of Education - Dubai, UAE)

Anne R. van Ewijk graduated cum-laude as MSc in Public Management at the Radboud University (http://www.ru.nl/english/) in Nijmegen (the Netherlands) in 2004, with a master thesis on the importance of the private life for public officials. Before that, she finished her BSc in Public Administration with a thesis containing the evaluation of a new policy instrument (the ‘region-advice’) of the province of Gelderland, that pretended to merge private and public interests on different governmental levels in a network-like environment. She also obtained a special certificate for having participated in the two year interdisciplinary Honours Programme (http://www.ru.nl/honoursprogramma/).

Afterwards, she decided to specialize in the public policy area of (social) security, achieving the title of MSc in Public Safety Governance at the University of Twente (http://www.graduate.utwente.nl/pa/tracks/ps/) in Enschede (the Netherlands) in 2006 with a master thesis on the policy theory behind policies regarding street-violence and serial-offending, partially written during an exchange period at the Robert Gorden University in Aberdeen, Scotland (United Kingdom).

Since then, she has been working as a PhD researcher on her own project about policies regarding the introduction and retention of diversity in police forces, at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (http://www.upf.edu/dcpis/en/) in Barcelona, Catalunya (Spain). Therefore, she also participates in the GRITIM, the interdisciplinary research group in immigration of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra directed by Ricard Zapata (http://www.upf.edu/gritim/). She hopes to finish her comparative study between the Politie Utrecht (the Netherlands) and the Mossos d’Escuadra (Catalunya, Spain) early in the year 2011.

Asides from that, she works part-time as a consultant in Change Management, guiding, among others, leadership-development and teambuilding programmes (www.samhoud.com/en). Also, she has been teaching an introductory course in criminology to police recruits of the Catalan Police Academy: the Institut de Seguretat Pública de Catalunya (http://www.gencat.cat/interior/ispc/).

She was working in conjunction with Steve Vertovec on diversity in public institutions.
