Talk given at the Einstein Forum in Potsdam 2009
This talk concerns the development of the conceptual framing device of diversity, and describes an exercise undertaken by S. Vertovec in the launching of the institute. It is an exercise in thinking about how to frame an entirely new research programme, the theoretical things to be looked into, the empirical work to be done, and so forth. This is a work in progress and as such, is open to criticism, comments and suggestions.
