Rituals and Socio-spatial Negotiations in Mega-cities (2009 – 2011) (completed)

Reza Masoudi Nejad

This research was aimed at exploring rituals as one of the mediums which urban society is constituted. It particularly addressed the way that different ethnicities communicate and negotiate with each other through rituals in Mumbai as a cosmopolitan city. It was aimed at understanding how diverse ethnicities practise social solidarity and cohesion through rituals, in particular, how the spatial organisation of ritual facilitates how communities represent and practise social division and conflict as well as social integration and conciliation.
