How do migrants in Germany make sense of economic inequality?

Margherita Cusmano

The doctoral research project analyzes how first-generation migrants to Germany make sense of economic inequality. It thus focuses on the interpretations and relevancies of social actors, taking into consideration cognitive, emotional, and moral dimensions. Adopting a qualitatively-driven mixed-methods design, the project aims at exploring possible differences between migrants and non-migrants through the German Socio-Economic Panel and the Diversity Assent dataset, on the one hand; on the other hand, in-depth interviews and focus groups will help elucidate what informs migrants’ sense-making.
