Prof. Dr. Matt Sparke
Curriculum Vitae
Matt Sparke is a guest in 2024. He is a Professor of Politics and Executive Director of
Global and Community Health at the University of California Santa Cruz. His work focuses on the changing geography of
politics and citizenship in the context of globalization and transnational
migration. This has led into research on the politics of global health,
including into what he theorizes as the ‘biological sub-citizenship’ of all those
deprived of access to adequate health rights and services. At Max Planck his work will address the
biological sub-citizenship of migrant communities during COVID, paying
particular attention to how superdiversity in cities has sometimes provided
countervailing protective effects.
