Sören Petermann is now full Professor at the Department for Sociology, Ruhr Universität Bochum.

Sören Petermann was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity and was working on the interdisciplinary research project "Diversity and Contact". Previously he worked as a scientific researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Sociology and at the Collaborative Research Centre 580 "Social development in post-socialistic societies" at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. He has taught courses at the graduate and undergraduate level at Halle University, Leipzig University of Applied Sciences, Nuremberg University and Göttingen University. He obtained a Dr. phil. in 2001 and a Dr. phil. habil. in 2012, both from Halle University.

His research interests include trust-based exchange processes within social networks and the causes and effects of this kind of social capital, in particular for urban populations.
