Max Planck goes to school

Once a year, Max Planck goes to school in Göttingen: on January 26, 2023, Seda Kara spoke with students at the Georg-Christoph-Lichtenberg-Gesamtschule.

It was a great pleasure to meet the 13th-grade pupils and to have an interactive talk about the experiences of "Turkish migrants living in Germany." Our conversation started with my background and proceeded to how and why I decided to do research about Turkish migrants living in Germany. After giving some information and statistics about the foreign population in Germany, I shared the experiences of the Turkish Guest workers' in Germany. We also talked about the experiences, difficulties, and feelings about being a foreigner and the stereotypical image of Turkish people. As an educated Turkish woman in Germany, I shared my experiences and feelings about the topic. At the end of the event, we also talked about what a social scientist does.

I am impressed by the pupils' brilliant questions, curiosity about the topic, and contributions during the presentation. I am happy that I had the chance to meet them and learn from them. I feel lucky to be given this opportunity by the Max Planck Institute and the Georg-Christoph-Lichtenberg-Gesamtschule. I hope this project and this partnership will continue so that we can share our knowledge in the field with them and learn from their perspective about the topic at the same time.
