In this workshop, we aim to stimulate an interdisciplinary dialogue that brings together diverse and overlapping perspectives that shed light on practices of home-making, dwelling, memory, heritage, home-coming and precarious modes of being-in-the-world. We are particularly interested in the existing and emerging modes of visual and spatial representation, alternative and multiple forms of engagement with home as a place of refuge, the locus of memory, and the space of care or resistance. Specifically, we will examine two key notions prominent in architectural and anthropological research agendas: ‘home-coming’ and ‘home-making’ in later life. These ideas allow us to consider various perspectives on agency, diasporic practices, and intergenerational negotiations.
