Prof. Dr. Dagmar Herzog (City University of New York):
“Against Ableism and Racism: The Radical Promise of Integrated Education in Post-‘Euthanasia‘ Germany“

Why is Disability still a category that is underresearched in sociology as well as migration research? Why is it still kept marginal in the literature on diversity as well as its intersections with other social categories of difference? It is only recently that the intersection between migration as well as race and racism and disability has been tackled in Germany. The workshop explores the intersection of disability and migration and seeks to get a deeper understanding of the neglect of this intersection, the different or similar logics of both categories of differences, the social and political and historical effects this intersection evokes, and the insights about societal inequality it offers. How can migration theory include the disabled person, how can disability studies consider migrants? What does the research on this intersection say about the category of disability and of the category of migration? How can we understand it in its historical – post-national socialist context? How can our own positionality provide epistemological insights into the understanding of this difference?
