Dr. Tabea Scharrer

Tabea Scharrer ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin in der Abteilung für soziokulturelle Vielfalt. Tabea ist Sozialanthropologin und beschäftigt sich mit Migration, sozioökonomischer Ungleichheit und Religion. Sie ist Habilitandin an der Universität Bayreuth und Mitarbeiterin am Max-Planck-Institut für ethnologische Forschung. Tabea hat in Flüchtlingslagern in Tansania geforscht, über islamische Missionsbewegungen in Ostafrika und mit somalischen Migrant*innen in kenianischen Stadtgebieten und in mehreren europäischen Städten. Zu ihren Veröffentlichungen gehört die Monographie 'Narrative islamischer Konversion: Biographische Erzählungen konvertierter Muslime in Ostafrika" (transcript, 2013) und zwei gemeinsam herausgegebene Bände über "Middle Classes in Africa" (Palgrave, 2018) und über "Mobile Urbanity. Somali Urban Presence in East Africa" (Berghahn, 2019). Darüber hinaus ist sie Mitherausgeberin des ersten deutschsprachigen Handbuchs zur Flucht- und Flüchtlingsforschung (Nomos, 2023). Sie ist Mitglied des Redaktionsbeirats von Comparative Migration Studies. Am MPI in Göttingen arbeitet sie an ihrer zweiten Monographie, die auf dem Material ihrer früheren Forschung mit somalischen Migrant*innen in Kenia und Deutschland basiert. Darin analysiert sie das Verhältnis von Klasse und Migration, d.h. von sozialer und räumlicher Mobilität.
