An associate researcher at IDEAS since October 2023, she has obtained several international funding grants (CIERA, IFRA-SHS, IC Migrations) in order to carry out her own current research project, located in Germanic space. Entitled "On the ancestors’ path. Returning, memory and nostalgia of Israelis of Germanic Jewish descent: Berlin and Vienna in perspective", this project is funded by a CNRS (French National Center of Scientific Research) research grant. As part of the French-German SALTO program of "strategic exchange and partnership for scientific excellence" with the Max-Planck Gesellschaft, Emma Barrett Fiedler will be attached to the Max-Planck Institute for the study of religious and ethnic diversity from November 2024 to July 2025. Her research field will take place in Berlin for the year 2024-2025 to come, in association with the Centre Marc Bloch.
Emma Barrett Fiedler ist bis Juni Gast der Abteilung. Nach Abschluss ihres Masterstudiums in Deutschland (Institut für Philosophie und Anthropologie, Halle) erhielt Emma einen Promotionsvertrag an der Universität Aix-Marseille, um am IDEAS (Institut d'Ethnologie et d'Anthropologie Sociale) zu promovieren. Ihre Dissertation, die sie im Juni 2023 verteidigte, trug den Titel „Rückkehr zur Nostalgie. Verwaltung von legalen Ausländern und Subjektivierungen im Exil“. Ihre Arbeit fällt in den Bereich der Migrationsanthropologie und befasst sich mit dem, was man als „migratorische“ Nostalgie bezeichnen könnte, oder mit der subjektiven Erfahrung des Exils, die heute durch das neue Aussehen des Umgangs mit Ausländern in Europa noch verschärft wird. Ihre Forschung bewegt sich in Richtung einer allgemeinen Anthropologie der Nostalgie, die über die psycho-affektiven Folgen der Migration hinausgeht: Sie interessiert sich für deren „stationäre“ Formen, die keine räumliche Veränderung erfordern, und konzentriert sich auf die Beziehung zwischen den Subjekten und dem Ablauf der Zeit. Ihr Forschungsprogramm für die kommenden Jahre wird sich auf drei „Zusammenbrüche“ und gelebte Erfahrungen des Verschwindens konzentrieren: Das deutsch-jüdische Gedächtnis, die Erinnerung an das sozialistische Deutschland in der DDR und die ökologische Nostalgie für die Natur.
Seit Oktober 2023 ist sie assoziierte Forscherin am IDEAS und hat mehrere internationale Stipendien (CIERA, IFRA-SHS, IC Migrations) erhalten, um ihr eigenes aktuelles Forschungsprojekt im deutschsprachigen Raum durchführen zu können. Unter dem Titel „Auf dem Weg der Ahnen. Rückkehr, Erinnerung und Nostalgie von Israelis germanisch-jüdischer Abstammung: Berlin und Wien in der Perspektive“ wird dieses Projekt durch ein CNRS-Forschungsstipendium (Französisches Nationales Zentrum für wissenschaftliche Forschung) finanziert. Im Rahmen des deutsch-französischen SALTO-Programms „Strategischer Austausch und Partnerschaft für wissenschaftliche Exzellenz“ mit der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft wird Emma Barrett Fiedler von November 2024 bis Juli 2025 am MPI MMG tätig sein. Ihr Forschungsbereich wird in den Jahren 2024-2025 in Berlin angesiedelt sein, in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Centre Marc Bloch.
