Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Steven Vertovec
Steven Vertovec ist Gründungsdirektor des Max-Planck-Instituts zur Erforschung multireligiöser und multiethnischer Gesellschaften und Honorarprofessor für Soziologie und Ethnologie an der Universität Göttingen, Deutschland. Zuvor war er Professor für Transnational Anthropology an der Universität Oxford und Direktor des britischen Economic and Social Research Council's Centre on Migration, Policy, and Society (COMPAS). Steves Arbeit umfasst die kritische Untersuchung verschiedener Konzepte rund um internationale Migration, transnationale soziale Formationen, ethnische Diaspora und Formen urbaner Vielfalt. Er erwarb einen B.A. (Magna cum laude) in Anthropologie und Religionswissenschaften an der University of Colorado, einen M.A. in Religionswissenschaften an der University of California in Santa Barbara und einen DPhil in Sozialanthropologie an der University of Oxford. Im Jahr 2018 wurde ihm von der Université de Liège die Ehrendoktorwürde (Sozialwissenschaften) verliehen. Steve ist Mitherausgeber der Zeitschrift Global Networks und der Palgrave-Buchreihe "Global Diversities". Er ist außerdem Autor von fünf Büchern, darunter "Transnationalism" (Routledge, 2009) und "Diversity and Contact" (Palgrave 2016) und Herausgeber oder Mitherausgeber von 35 Bänden, darunter "Islam in Europe" (Macmillan, 1997), "Conceiving Cosmopolitanism" (Oxford University Press, 2003), "The Multicultural Backlash" (Routledge 2010), "The International Handbook of Diversity Studies" (Routledge, 2015) und "The Oxford Handbook of Super-diversity" (Oxford University Press, in Vorbereitung). Seit über 25 Jahren arbeitet Steve mit einer Reihe von politischen Entscheidungsträger*innen zusammen, unter anderem innerhalb des Sachverständigenrates der deutschen Stiftungen für Migration und Integration, des Cabinet Office und des Innenministeriums der britischen Regierung, der Europäischen Kommission, der G8, der Weltbank und der UNESCO. Prof. Vertovec die Ehrendoktorwürde der Universität Lüttich.
